Meet the Surveyor:
Mitchell Manders
Born and raised in the Annapolis area and surrounded by the Chesapeake Bay, Mitchell's passion and overall fascination with boats and boating sparked early in life. Determined to turn this passion into a profession, after graduating from Broadneck High School, he pursued his formal education at the Landing School in Arundel, Maine, one of the top-ranked marine trades schools in the country. Over three years, he immersed himself in Boatbuilding, Marine Systems, and Yacht Design, receiving accreditation in each.
Seeking to further expand his knowledge, Mitchell attended Solent University in Southampton, England, a renowned boatbuilding center dating back centuries. There, he studied yacht design, earning a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) with honors in Yacht and Powercraft Design. Mitchell also attended the Chapman School of Seamanship in Stuart, FL, where he graduated as valedictorian of his class, earning his certification in Yacht and Small Craft ​Surveying and is a member of the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS) as a Surveyor Associate (S.A.) and a certified American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) technician.

​Returning to his roots in Annapolis, Maryland, Mitchell accumulated over a decade of hands-on experience as a marine technician working on an extensive list of manufacturers. His expertise encompassed regular maintenance and repairs across various systems including mechanical, propulsion, electrical, electronics, plumbing, and air conditioning.
In addition, Mitchell was part of a build team for custom sportfishing yachts ranging from 80 to 97 feet. He also designed, built, and installed custom additions ranging from tables, cabinetry, and innovative marine technology to all manner of fun gadgets on customer vessels. This extensive background not only equips him to conduct thorough vessel assessments but also enables him to offer actionable maintenance and repair recommendations.​

Throughout his life and career, Mitchell has dedicated himself to accumulating hands-on experience, aiming to empower others to make informed decisions and revel in the pleasures of being on the water. In launching Manders Marine Surveying, Mitchell seeks to combine his industry knowledge and expertise to benefit the Chesapeake Bay boating community, removing obstacles to help customers spend more quality time on the water. His commitment to conducting meticulous and thoughtful marine surveys is geared towards instilling confidence in the vessel owners he works with.
