Survey Preparation Guide

Generally, the arrangements and preparation for the survey are the responsibility of the person ordering the survey.

Below are a set of guidelines that should be followed to ensure an efficient and accurate survey:

  • Clean the vessel thoroughly, removing excessive personal items and miscellaneous gear.

  • Make sure all lockers and other compartments are accessible and cleared out.

  • Have all vessel paperwork and documentation, including maintenance logs, readily available for the surveyor.

  • Clean the bilges and remove any excess water or debris.

  • Ensure the batteries are installed and fully charged.

  • If the vessel has 120V/240V AC systems, arrange for shore power to be available during the survey.

    • NOTE: If shore power is unavailable, any installed AC electrical equipment may be unable to be tested.

  • If the vessel is equipped with a potable water system, ensure the water tanks are full.

  • Haul Out:

    • A haul out is necessary to inspect the vessels wetted surfaces and running gear. It is the responsibility of the client to make these arrangements with the marina and vessel owner if applicable. The client will be responsible for all costs associated with the haul out.

  • Trial Run:

    • If a trial run is to be conducted, arrangements should be made for a captain or owner authorized operator to be present for the survey.

The surveyor may request minor dismantling of the interior ceilings, headliners, panels etc. in order to gain access to areas for inspection. Any dismantling and re-installation of these parts should be performed by qualified personnel or the vessel owner and is the responsibility of the person ordering the survey.

What Happens After the Survey is Conducted?

Once your survey is complete, you'll receive a comprehensive survey report that details the condition and value of the vessel. Understanding the contents of this report is crucial for making informed decisions, whether it's for purchase, insurance, or valuation purposes.
